The collection of works visually bridges Patricia Taylor Holz’s experimental\, textured mixed media pieces with the vibrantly colored abstract work of Nancy Ramsey\, and the soft moving atmospheric studies of Caroline Adams into a seamless\, complimentary display. \nPatricia Taylor Holz paints on paper\, metal\, wood and canvas with dye\, watercolor\, acrylics & oils. Her surfaces are then sculpted with gesso\, molding paste\, rice paper\, twine\, crackling paste\, cheesecloth\, sand\, sawdust\, and lava salt. \nNancy Ramsey‘s medium of choice has evolved from watercolor to mixed water media\, acrylics and oil and includes\, most recently\, layering drawing and painting on translucent substrates. \nCaroline Adams’s abstracted landscapes are created in oil and egg tempera on canvas and panel. \nContact\nARTfactory\, Gallery Director: Jordan Exum | jexum@VirginiaARTfactory.org\n9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA 20110 | 703-330-2787\nGallery Hours: Tuesday-Saturday (10 am-5 pm)\, Sunday (12-5 pm) VirginiaARTfactory.org \n  URL:https://virginiaartfactory.org/event/artists-demonstrations-variegated/ LOCATION:ARTfactory\, 9419 Battle Street\, Manassas\, VA\, 20110\, United States CATEGORIES:Gallery ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://virginiaartfactory.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Variegated_Instagram-Post-1.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=UTC:20250314T180000 DTEND;TZID=UTC:20250314T210000 DTSTAMP:20250419T030653 CREATED:20250205T211819Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250317T151628Z UID:10001666-1741975200-1741986000@virginiaartfactory.org SUMMARY:A Lazy Art Night Vol. 3 DESCRIPTION:Lazy Art Night\nFriday\, March 14\, 6:00-9:00 pm\n(9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA 20110)\n(Free & open to the public) \nThe Cozy Experience is back with Volume 3 of Lazy Art Night at the ARTfactory! Kennedy challenges the often-one-dimensional perceptions of black men by portraying their vulnerabilities alongside their strengths in his artwork. His paintings reflect his own experiences as a 37-year-old black man\, and they seek to provoke thought\, inviting viewers to engage with the unseen emotions that lie beneath the surface. Each piece delves into the featured figures inner world\, capturing both the softness and resilience that define their existence. Kennedy works primarily with acrylic paint\, applying it to both canvas and wood panels\, where he finds the texture and depth of these materials allow for greater emotional resonance in his work. \nUltimately\, Kennedy’s art is an introspective journey\, not only for himself\, but for those who view it. Kennedy wants his audience to see that black men are more than the stereotypes and societal expectations placed upon them. They are multifaceted individuals with rich inner lives\, and through his art\, he seeks to tell their stories. \nAbout the Artist\nBorn in 1987 in SE Washington\, DC\, William’s creativity started at a young age by simply drawing any and everything around him. At the age of 10\, he moved to New Bedford\, MA\, where his focus shifted to sports\, while still drawing in his spare time. Although William took art classes throughout his school years\, art was never really thought of as more than a hobby. It was only later in life that Kennedy realized his natural talents would lead him to be the self-made artist he is today. As a self-taught artist\, he became a freelance designer and illustrator\, working as such for the past 10 years. A little over a year ago\, he shifted to Contemporary Painting and Portraiture\, which has become his primary focus. Using acrylic on canvas and charcoal on paper/canvas\, a lot of his work focuses on urban culture\, with each piece having its own meaning. His work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums\, including the Brick Lane Gallery in London\, the Liberal Arts Gallery in Michigan\, and the New Bedford Art Museum and Narrows Center for the Arts in Massachusetts. \nContact\nARTfactory\, Gallery Director: Jordan Exum | jexum@VirginiaARTfactory.org\n9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA 20110 | 703-330-2787\nGallery Hours: Tuesday-Saturday (10 am-5 pm)\, Sunday (12-5 pm) VirginiaARTfactory.org \n  URL:https://virginiaartfactory.org/event/artist-reception-william-kennedy-beyond-the-surface/ LOCATION:ARTfactory\, 9419 Battle Street\, Manassas\, VA\, 20110\, United States CATEGORIES:Gallery ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://virginiaartfactory.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Kennedy-Insta-Graphic-1.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=UTC:20250131T100000 DTEND;TZID=UTC:20250301T170000 DTSTAMP:20250419T030653 CREATED:20250107T230901Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250301T140019Z UID:10000101-1738317600-1740848400@virginiaartfactory.org SUMMARY:Beyond the Surface DESCRIPTION:ARTfactory to Feature DC Native William Kennedy in Solo Art Exhibit “Beyond the Surface”\nExhibit dates: January 31 – March 1\, 2025 \nArtist Reception: February 1\, 6-8 pm (Sponsored by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\, Inc.)\n9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, Free & open to the public.
